Intro
I think you can relate to the content of this article by seeing the post title 😀
So, let me represent How I created this FREE, simple (but gorgeous) mmarjb.wordpress.com Blogsite with less effort.
Few more words
Do you know the fundamental difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org?
Here are a few points which will help you to understand that
- WordPress.org will provide you the zip file for WordPress, and you need to configure/installed other stuff on your self-hosted server. An example of this is my self-hosted WordPress Blog-Site (wpregular.com), which I built with WordPress.
- On the other hand, with WordPress.com, you no need to worry about those all kinds of stuff (WordPress will take care of those), and you are good to go after initially inserting all the necessary information during signup.
Those are the two fundamental differences.
Apart from this, in WordPress.com, a few Pros like–
- You don’t need to worry about custom development, but you still may need a little technical knowledge during building your essential pages where WordPress recently introduced its astonishing Block Editor (AKA Gutenberg). Once you’ll cope-up with this, it will be more fun to create pages/posts on WordPress.
- You don’t have to work with code! Everything on mouse click (Trial & error process) -edit, make things ready, preview, and publish. Cool!
- You don’t need to spend a single PENNY! It has a free package with 3GB storage. I think this is fair enough to get started with WordPress.
- You don’t have to worry about every WordPress update, Secure freemium hosting, and free spam protection.
Cons like:
- Remember, the site will be hosted as a WordPress subdomain like mine (mmarjb.wordpress.com) if you are using a free plan.
- WordPress will show advertising on the free plan. However, this is less aggressive than others.
- Limited storage (3GB)
- Monetizing the site requires a pro plan
- Installing themes & plugins are unavailable (required Business plan)
- Cost-effective for the free plan, but a premium plan will charge you $8 per month, whereas, on a self-hosted site (with wordpress.org), you can nearly cover the cost (8×12) for a year!
Apart from any debating, you can undoubtedly go with WordPress.com to introduce yourself to a better hassle-free blogging world.
So what are you waiting for! Follow the below steps to learn how I created this blog and how you can also build one? Let’s grow together 🤪
Step One
- Open your browser (I am used to Chrome) and visit wordpress.com/pricing & choose your plan (I’m using Free), then hit the Start with Free button.
- Fill out the form by entering your email address, username (unique) & password.
- Fill up the setup wizard to make the bog essential ready for yourself. Though you can change those settings from the backend, it’s recommended to insert the following information during getting started. So insert your Site name and about info, and continue.
- This step is crucial. You have to choose a domain for your blog. As like for me, it was (mmarjb.wordpress.com). Remember, if you decide on the name, which is a subdomain.wordpress.com, then it will show as free, but other suggested domain names will charge you to get started.
- On the below, you will also get an option called to use a domain I own. It will let you use your existing domain throughout WordPress dot com, but you have to transfer that if you have purchased/hosted that anywhere else. So this is another context that is not our subject now. Just skip it and SELECT your free plan (yourname.wordpress.com), then on the next screen again, choose START WITH FREE.
WOW! You made it done, now your wordpress.com site is created successfully, and you will be redirected to the admin area of WordPress. You can manage your site’s all information from there. Another thing you can also create multiple sites from your admin area -> domain section.
Step Two
So the initial step is done. We have already created our WordPress site successfully. Now I’m going to present my recipe to give you some idea about how I made this simple blog.
Disclaimer: To make it short and keep on the main blog-posts objective, I’m skipping the introduction description of all the admin-area settings. I will try to create another post (or series) to introduce all the backend settings one by one.
- So the first thing, navigate to your admin area -> Theme’s setting and scroll down, click Show All Themes & search for Theme (Baskerville)
- Then click on the theme thumbnail photo or info button. It will show the details page with Activate this design FREE.
- Now click on the Customize site button. Well done! Now you can customize and set up your theme as you. want.
Step Three
Now let me brief you about my site’s customized settings to make yours like mine.
- Site Identity: http://prntscr.com/wb23g5
- Colors & Backgrounds: http://prntscr.com/wc9mtm
- Fonts: http://prntscr.com/wc9n9w

Oh, yes! Everything completed. Now time to visit the site from the front end. You will get the view precisely like me 👋👋
Wait, did I tell you that you can also visit your site admin area by visiting the URL (yoursite.wordpress.com/wp-admin).
